| The Portfolio Design Process |
- Define financial goals. Through personal consultations, needs based analysis (e.g. retirement planning) and your life goals, we sharply define your financial goals in terms of target values and time horizon. Other elements such as estate planning or risk management are also incorporated as required.
- Define acceptable investment risk profile. Your attitudes about various types of investments (e.g. stocks, bonds, mutual funds) are evaluated as well as the amount of investment risk you need to take to achieve your financial goals. A risk profile is then created to identify acceptable asset allocations for your risk profile.
- Identify any special requirements–These special requirements may consist of caring for a disabled family member, or leaving a legacy for your heirs.
- Create an investment policy– This is a formal document that describes the broad target asset allocations to fit your risk tolerance and goals, acceptable and unacceptable investments, tax management issues and any legal requirements your investment portfolio must comply with. This document is in effect your instructions to us on how to manage your portfolio.
- Portfolio Structure–This is a formal document that describes the detailed account structure of your portfolio and where your money should be invested to fully implement the Investment Policy. This includes specific investment recommendations (e.g. ABC mutual fund) along with recommended allocations to each type of fund selected.
- Implement the Portfolio Design–At your option we can implement the portfolio design for you or you can do it yourself.
